October is National Bullying Prevention Month—a time to practice kindness, include others, and help children know where to turn for support.
Bullying can happen through words, physical actions, exclusion, or digital messages. Small, steady actions can help make a school or community more welcoming:
- Invite someone who is being left out to join you.
- Listen without blaming a child who tells you about bullying.
- Help a child speak with a trusted adult, such as a parent, teacher, or school counselor.
- If you witness bullying, get adult help and check in with the person targeted when it is safe to do so.
PACER launched the observance as a week in 2006; it expanded to a month in 2010. Explore PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Month resources.
At Outnumbered, we encourage young people to stand together against bullying. Explore our family resources and learn about Outnumbered, the book.
